Ralph Drollinger is best known for two things: being a retired professional American basketball player, as well as the president of Capitol Ministries, an evangelical group that provides ministry to political leaders.

He played collegiate basketball in UCLA for four years under the tutelage of legendary basketball coach John Wooden, and was the first player to compete in four NCAA final four tournaments. In 1978, he played for the United States men’s basketball team at the FIBA World Championship. Shortly after college, he was taken in the NBA draft thrice – in 1976 by the Boston Celtics, then in 1977 by the New York Nets, and finally, in 1978 by the Seattle SuperSonics. Ralph Drollinger turned down these opportunities, and went on to play for Athletes in Action for four years, touring the world and preaching the gospel during the halftime period of their games. In 1981, he was signed by the Dallas Mavericks, where he played six games during their inaugural season in 1980-81. He averaged 2.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. Suffering from a knee injury, he was forced to resign in March 1981.

After ending his basketball career, Drollinger served in sports ministry as director of the trade organization of America’s sports ministry movement, Sports Outreach America. Together with his wife Danielle, he founded Capitol Ministries in 1997. The organization aims to evangelize elected officials and lead them towards maturity in Christ. The organization has started dozens of ministries throughout the US, and recently, in Latin America. Last year, he started Capitol Ministries in Washington D.C. where he leads a congressional Bible study group.
