Weekend in the Word®: Ralph Drollinger and the Ideal Communion with the Lord

From Ralph Drollinger

Leaders such as Capitol Ministries President and Founder Ralph Drollinger believe that constant studying of God’s Word may provide legislators and members with the life-changing experience of being closer to the Lord. While it is ideal for people to take time to leave their routines and embark on journeys that would give them stronger faith, most members of Capitol Ministries are career people with busy and active lifestyle. Thus, in order to empower its members to meet more Christ-centered legislators, the Ministry offers the Weekend in the Word®, a bi-annual event that may help members experience spiritual havens to pave way for ideal communions with the Lord.

Tentatively scheduled for December 2012 in Palm Strings, California, Capitol Ministries intends the weekend to facilitate the meeting of legislators and their spouses with dedicated arbiters of the Gospel, such as Ralph Drollinger. The event’s organizers believe that the retreat would help believers grow spiritually in ways other ministry programs fail to do so.

From Ralph Drollinger

The weekend is designed to refresh the minds of legislators and provide them with investment discernment in meeting up-and-coming mature followers of Christ. Of course, the weekend would not be complete without common American recreations. Golf, relationship building activities, fine dining, and opportunities for networking would be offered to the participants.

Additional information about the weekend and other upcoming activities is available at capmin.org.

Ralph Drollinger and Capitol Ministries: Saving the World by Evangelizing, One Capital at a Time

From Ralph Drollinger

The Book of Acts, Chapter 6 talks about the importance of ministering the word of God and increasing the number of disciples. Ralph Drollinger of Capitol Ministries takes this to heart and proceeds to make disciples of Jesus Christ in the political arena throughout the world.

The Bible also states that doing everything in God’s name follows greatness, for Jesus says that “You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” If everything done in God’s name is great, then what could be better than to live in a world where political leaders do not follow the whims of their mortal bodies but wholeheartedly obey the sacred doctrines of the Bible?

From Ralph Drollinger

This very principle is what drivesRalph Drollinger and the Capitol Ministries staff to set forth to evangelize the nation, one capital at a time. Capitol Ministries shares the gospel with legislators, politicians, lobbyists, and other industry shakers and movers in the political arena.

Even the great men of the Bible had to reach out to political leaders. Acts 9 documents the conversion of Paul as he was chosen by God to be His “chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel.”

As is evident by the relentless pursuit of service by Capital Ministries, having political leaders make informed decisions based on the Gospel is service that exceeds all expectations. More information on Capital Ministries is available at capmin.org.

Ralph Drollinger and Capitol Ministries: Debating the Free Market Survival in a Secular World

From Ralph Drollinger

Ralph Drollinger is a strong believer that God has a plan for man and society, and that He has made certain institutions within society for specific purposes. It is not only useful to observe these institutions and discover God’s underlying purposes for creating them, but it is also worthwhile to use these societal features as a basis to teach about the Scripture and what it has to say about man and his relations towards fellow men.

There are three Catch-Basins or societal safety nets that can be found in today’s world:

Individuals

As 2 Thessalonians 3: 6-12 explains, God has already assigned a primary caretaker in providing people with life’s basic necessities: the individual. Ralph Drollinger elaborates with “If anyone will not work, neither let them eat” as stated by verse 1o. Proverbs also has a verse which states, “Poor is he who works with a negligent hand, But the hand of the diligent makes the rich.”

The Ministries has a strong belief in the individual working to provide for himself and others. James 1: 27 reinforces this fact with further proof that there is a contextual need for the individual to help those in need. God has therefore designed society in such a way that the individual must be the primary provider for the needy, both for the self and those with legitimate inability to do so for their selves.
From Ralph Drollinger
Marriage and Family

Ralph Drollinger says that the New Testament’s most telling passage in this matter is 1 Timothy 5: 3-16, which refers to the “pecking-order” of where the responsibility falls when it comes to taking care of others. It confirms that for a believer to be unable to take care of those in need within his own family makes the transgression much worse.

Galatians 6:10 adds, “So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” Thus it is made clear that the institution of marriage and family affirms that it is incumbent upon members of the family to care for one another.

The Church

According to Acts 6:1-16, the “believing widows” as according to 1 Timothy 5 (therefore could be taken to cover all those with legitimate inability to care for themselves) would be cared for by the Church, God’s third intended basin of care. Ralph Drollinger adds that the Church is meant to be the instrument to end poverty as opposed to expecting the State or civil government to do it—there is a significant lack of support in the Bible towards such a notion.

Ralph Drollinger Talks Hobbies: Backpacking and Hiking Basics

From Ralph Drollinger
Ralph Drollinger is a man who encourages healthy physical activities, and his list of sports and hobbies are testament to this fact. One of his preferred outdoor activities is backpacking, an activity that combines healthy exercise and communing with nature. While it is a popular outdoor hobby and comes highly recommended for a good cardiovascular exercise with excellent fat-burning advantages, backpacking still needs adequate preparation.

Beginners should start by looking up information on backpacking through books. There are many reputable books on the subject that can properly orient a novice backpacker of things to expect for the trip. Reading up on backcountry first aid is also a requirement.
From Ralph Drollinger
Ralph Drollinger goes on to say that in terms of references, Courses and Backcountry Organizations can provide valuable information to a novice backpacker—especially first-hand information coming from their experience in the trail. This is something that a person cannot get from the books.

Getting in shape for the trip is key. The novice might say that the point of the trip is indeed to get in shape, but there is still no excuse for exercising and preparing the body prior to the strenuous activity. Knowing the body’s physical condition will aid in deciding what kinds of preparations will be taken. Swimming, walking, and biking (human powered) will strengthen the legs and help a person develop more endurance for the trip.

Ralph Drollinger is more than just an athlete—he is also a leader of a religious movement that aims to enlighten the nation of the Word of the Lord: Capitol Ministries. Full details of his projects can be found at www.capmin.com.

Ralph Drollinger: Basketball Player and Spiritual Leader

Ralph Drollinger is best known for two things: being a retired professional American basketball player, as well as the president of Capitol Ministries, an evangelical group that provides ministry to political leaders.

From Ralph Drollinger

He played collegiate basketball in UCLA for four years under the tutelage of legendary basketball coach John Wooden, and was the first player to compete in four NCAA final four tournaments. In 1978, he played for the United States men’s basketball team at the FIBA World Championship. Shortly after college, he was taken in the NBA draft thrice – in 1976 by the Boston Celtics, then in 1977 by the New York Nets, and finally, in 1978 by the Seattle SuperSonics. Ralph Drollinger turned down these opportunities, and went on to play for Athletes in Action for four years, touring the world and preaching the gospel during the halftime period of their games. In 1981, he was signed by the Dallas Mavericks, where he played six games during their inaugural season in 1980-81. He averaged 2.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. Suffering from a knee injury, he was forced to resign in March 1981.

From Ralph Drollinger

After ending his basketball career, Drollinger served in sports ministry as director of the trade organization of America’s sports ministry movement, Sports Outreach America. Together with his wife Danielle, he founded Capitol Ministries in 1997. The organization aims to evangelize elected officials and lead them towards maturity in Christ. The organization has started dozens of ministries throughout the US, and recently, in Latin America. Last year, he started Capitol Ministries in Washington D.C. where he leads a congressional Bible study group.
